What is a graduate internship?

A graduate internship is a unique opportunity to have graduate calibre employees work in a business for a short period of time.  Each internship will be expected to last between 8 and 12 weeks and graduates can be expected to work on all different types of projects/jobs.  Businesses will provide work between 8 and 30 hours per week on projects at their discretion.  .

What is in it for employers?

Brunel University will provide the employer with a subsidy to help fund the internship  -  in return, Brunel University will need employers to meet certain criteria and provide graduates with specific projects to work on.

What is in it for graduates?

Graduates will gain work experience and improve their employability skills  -  some businesses may decide to keep graduates on for more work after the internship finishes.  For other graduates, it may just be a unique insight into a business or career path.

Which businesses can take part?

 Eligible businesses are those that are either;

  • A small business (less than 50 employees), OR
  • Have between 50-250 employees and are FSB registered OR
  • Any sized business that can classify itself as working in the following sectors (low carbon products and services / digital industry / life sciences and pharmaceuticals / advanced manufacturing / professional and financial services / engineering construction / opportunities in the ageing services industry)

Businesses must meet ONE of the above criteria and commit to providing  specific internship project for a period of 8 weeks or more.

Which graduates can apply?

Any graduates who are unemployed can apply.  This includes those who are due to be completing their courses in 2010, or may have graduated already in previous years.

How are graduates matched to internship opportunities?

Brunel University has a dedicated team of recruitment specialists who will attract, sift and forward appropriate graduate candidates to businesses  registered on this scheme. Businesses will then select the best graduate/s for their internship/s.  Businesses can take on one or more graduate internships, which must be completed before September 2010.
